Another week, another match.
Shag & Run FC are on the back of a 6-1 victory in the run-up to this match against Zero FC. Match proceedings were delayed as irresponsible players came to the pitch late (Aiman for one).
After seeing last week's tactics against BFB, it's a wonder why step-in manager for today, Meng Yoei didn't want to integrated the rather effective attacking approach with Eng Eu as target man.
Pundits would say that the 3-man up front is rather ineffective at the start of the game.
Today's match begins with a high-spirited S&R team, whose confidence boosted due to the fact that they've got their brand new signing Muhammad Azlan bin Johar on a free transfer.
Regarded as one of the best defenders during his school-time career, Azlan began his debut with a Man United jersey and mismatched boots.
Beneath the exterior lies one of the most sought-after defenders and we have to say, Manager, Henry A. Chuah is glad that Azlan agreed to join S&R.
Asked about his debut, the star defender humbly said: "The gaffer sms-ed me the other day that I'm going to start today and I'm glad I helped the team get a clean sheet"
The match started with team S&R trying to make Zero FC pay for their slacking defence yet couldn't break the deadlock until captain Meng Wai got of a rebound and drove a strong left-footer past Wayonn the Zero FC goalkeeper.
That was early on in the game and the early goal had look promising for another high-scoring game today. That was proven wrong as Wayonn had made a number of stunning saves to deny S&R of a rout. Eng Eu told Aiman that it is so much more effective with the target man thing and had gotten quite angry with the management.
The first half ended without further goals yet defender Eng Eu had suffered a knock by a Zero FC player and that effected his performance through out the whole game.
2nd half began with noticeable changes in the S&R line-up with Chee Hoe up front.
Meng Yoei had went down the left flank with pace but had wasted his chance to cross.
Commenting on his performance, "I know what's wrong with me. I always push my balls too far and the defenders tend to take advantage of that".
Wonder which balls eh?
Striker Chee Hoe had then wasted a goal-scoring opportunity going 1v1 with the keeper but slamming the ball past the bar. Around this moment that Zero FC's #7 had left the pitch because of something.
Entering 60 minutes, S&R FC players looked like they were going to regret the fact that they hit the bar 3 times when shots by Patrick, Kein Yew and Meng Yoei were greeted by the opposing goalpost. Soon after that, our trojan-haired right back Kah Weng risked a counter attack by Zero FC by pushing forward which proved fruitful as he tapped in a pass from striker Kein Yew.
With confidence sky-high, S&R pushed forward yet again and had released Eng Eu who, like Chee Hoe had opted for power instead of accuracy in the face of goal.
Towards the final 15 minutes, Zero FC's Number 11 is seen leaving the pitch, ignoring his friend's pleads. By then, S&R have been controlling the game and Aiman lighten up the game with a couple of tricks up his sleeve against a couple of Zero FC's defenders which were followed by a roar of celebration from the bench.
With only 9 men on the field, Zero FC struggled to keep up with S&R's pace and were made to pay when they conceded from a set-piece which seems to be out of a training regime.
Aiman had headed in his second goal in two games and S&R were in high-spirits as the game was effectively sealed.
Zero FC had been completely depleted by then and there were no further attacks from them.
Towards the end of the match, Kah Weng squandered a wonderful passing opportunity by going for glory, but missed by miles.
Therefore the match stands at 3-0 to S&R, and a congratulations to Ben for keeping that clean sheet, although we have to say you were a tad lucky.
During the post-match conference, Eng Eu had said; "I've absolutely nothing to comment about this game. We all did a wonderful job but I'm not going to lie. I've been KS-ed, I've been KS-ed."
S&R will look to extend their winning run with a match against Inferno FC soon.
Cheers!
